Mercedes-Benz C 55 AMG Production Numbers & Info

Hello friends! I have always been very interested in the W/S202 C 55 AMG and on this page I want to share my findings with you as compactly as possible!

The conversions were quite expensive:

I found some of the modifications in official AMG documents. Contrary to some claims, there is no Avantgarde grille in the spare parts list or in the C 55 press photos. Alyehli has also made some documents available on the Internet.

Official production numbers

There is lots of different information on the Internet about the number of units of the W/S 202 C 55 AMG. You can read about 7, 12, 45 and 59 units that have been built.

According to Mercedes (under General Data), this number was not documented separately:

However, the press release (page 23) for the C63 AMG on 11.09.2007 mentions a number for the C 55 AMG.

However, I consider the 59 to be incorrect because the other numbers, e.g. 5,400 C 36 AMGs, are not accurate. Mercedes itself contradicts this with the number of 5,221 from the Archive:

My goal is to at least identify the C 55 AMGs based on their VIN and datacard. There might be more conversions, but the other datacards are like the standard C 43 datacard.

Distinctive Features C 55 AMG (Datacard)

Engine Number
The C 43 AMGs have an M113 with engine number 113.944 installed,

but the C 55 models have one with number 113.983.

Transmission Number
C 43 Transmission: 722.631
C 55 Transmission: 722.636
Engine and Transmission Number
In some vehicles, the engine number is from the C 55 AMG but the transmission number is still from the C43 AMG. The reverse also exists: engine number from the C43 AMG and transmission number from the C 55 AMG. These vehicles are also listed below.
Model name
In two vehicles, the model name in the datacard is not "C43". Instead, it is "C 55 AMG" or "AMG C55".
AMG Note
Some datacards contain an additional note about the conversion by AMG.

After doing my research, I found 16 VINs!βœ…

However, I came across a few more cars that are different from the C43. But itˈs not possible to be completely sure that itˈs a C 55 factory conversion:

113.980 engine number corresponds to W210 E55 – Germany (Ravensburg)
Datacard unchanged, but according to vehicle papers 113.983 engine and 300 KM/H Speedometer
113.980 Engine number equals W210 E55 – Germany (Karlsruhe)
Datacard unchanged – but C 55 typeplate and 300 KM/H instrument cluster YouTube
Datacard unchanged, but according to a forum post from 2002 there was a C 55 AMG in the color Designo Orange, which was owned by the AMG Owners Club. Only one C43 was built in designo orange YouTube Photo

Conclusion

I assume that there are more official C 55 AMG conversions, but these cannot be identified using the datacard database or any other public information on the internet yet. Peace!
